Last Saturday, I got to cross something off my photography bucket list: I got to photograph a proposal! Steven and Jessica became engaged last weekend at the beautiful Indian Ladder Farms and I got to capture it on film!
There’s a lot of planning that goes into capturing a proposal! There has to be great communication between the groom-to-be and the photographer. Since you only get one shot at capturing the moment, you need to make sure that the groom knows the exact spot where he’ll propose and where you’ll be standing. Usually, I recommend doing a walk-through the night before. However, that Friday happened to be Steven’s brother’s wedding, so he was a bit busy! Luckily, we found a perfect private location in the orchard where the proposal could happen.
When the time came for the proposal, I think I was probably more nervous than Steven! I could see them coming down the row of apple trees and was so worried that Jess would see me. Well…she did see me, but it worked out beautifully as I could then move into a better location for photos. Steven got down on one knee and proposed and, needless to say, Jess said YES!
After the proposal, we did a few photos of them in the orchard. It was a cold and rainy day and the mist coming off of the cliffs behind the orchard was gorgeous! However, we were all pretty anxious to get back inside and headed over to Jess’s aunt and uncle’s house for a engagement party. After celebrating with family for a few hours, we drove over to Washington Park for a quick Engagement Session. It was a full day, but definitely one worth documenting!
As a photographer, it’s always my goal to capture genuine emotion. Let me tell you, it doesn’t get more emotional than a proposal! It was such an honor to get to photograph that once-in-a-lifetime moment and I love how their images turned out! Many congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs. Goebel!
