A few months ago, my friend Carianne, owner and event planner of Emerald Events, approached me about working together on a styled shoot. A styled shoot is when different vendors collaborate to create a “mock” event, so that each can showcase their work. This is especially common in the wedding industry as it gives venues, florists, stationery designers, and photographers a chance to show off their best work to future brides. Carianne’s idea was extra special, though, because this wasn’t going to be about weddings – it was going to be about kids! She spent months coordinating with amazing local vendors to create a breathtaking “Winter Party Styled Shoot.” I’m excited to finally share some images today!
The vision for this shoot was pretty simple. There would be bright, bold colors; there would be geometric patterns; the atmosphere would be minimalistic, but fun. Since the idea was to create a kid’s birthday party, everything also had to be child-friendly. The final result was all that and more! There were three little models (including my own Elizabeth!) who got to dress up, get their hair and makeup done, eat cake and sweets, and play games for an entire afternoon. It was so much fun!
One of my favorite parts of this shoot was getting to watch all of the vendors set up. The venue, The Sweet Praxis, is already a beautiful space, full of bright color and lots of natural light. By the time the cafe tables were moved, the large farm table set up, the chairs in place, and the flowers and linens put down set the bakery looked AMAZING. Velvety vintage chairs and luscious flower arrangements added a soft touch the the clean lines of the rest of the room. The colored glass goblets and golden silverware added a bit of glamour (and the kids LOVED playing with them!). It was just so incredible to watch the space transform right before our eyes!
Here are my favorite images from the shoot! I’ve included some of the set-up as well, so that you can get a feel for how much work went into making this happen!
