Wearing a veil is one of the oldest and most wide-spread wedding traditions and it’s also one of my favorites! Today I’m sharing some of my favorite reasons to wear a veil on your wedding day!
My favorite photos to take on a wedding day are the bride and groom’s portraits. This is when I get the chance to be the most creative! It’s also one of the best times to show off your veil! Wearing a veil actually gives you SO many more options for photos! Veil shots add interest to standard poses. They flow in the wind, adding texture. They can even be used to create a blurry foreground, adding interest and blocking out distractions in the background. I’ve even created some beautiful (and really fun) portraits by having couples both go under the veil!
The other great reason to wear a veil is if you’re doing a First Look. Most brides who do a First Look choose to do so for timeline reasons or to have a private moment with the groom before the day gets really busy. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have high expectations for the walk down the aisle! Every bride wants their groom to be blown away when he first sees her coming toward him – whether they’ve already seen each other or not!
Wearing a veil is a great way to add another element of surprise to the walk down the aisle. I usually recommend that brides do the First Look without a veil and then put it in just before the ceremony. That way the veil doesn’t get in the way of the groom seeing her during the First Look (if you’ve dealt with a veil in the wind, you know what I’m talking about!), and it adds a new element for the walk down the aisle.
